PERSPECTIVE

PERSPECTIVE -  A view or vista
a. The ability to perceive things in their actual interrelations or comparative importance.
b. The subjective evaluation of relative significance, a point of view.

Jesus asked, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?" They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
"But what about you?" he asked, "Who do you say I am?"

Why did the people say he was John the Baptist, or Elijah, or Jeremiah? These were all prophets telling the Israel nation to repent and turn to God and since Jesus was telling them to repent and turn to Him, they thought He was another prophet. The question is why did people think that? It is because of their perspective of the coming Messiah. They were following the "point of view or world view" of the religious leaders instead of their hearts. The religious leaders of that day had a different point of view than what the scriptures taught because they were distracted by their own desires instead of being obedient to God's word.
Then Jesus asked, "Who do you say I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
Wow a much different answer! Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man," but by my Father in heaven. Wow again!

You see now why Peter knew the answer. He was basing his answer on the word of God. Now the religious leaders had the word of God and knew it quite well. But they were distracted by their own desires of power and greed and pride.

So we have to answer the question, what is distracting me, what is my "point of view?" Am I following God's will for my life or am I distracted by selfish motives? We make decisions from our perspective of life or most commonly called today our "world view." From what side of the issue are you making your decisions? For instance; Homosexual marriage, "Is it ok or not ok?" You decide based on your "world view." Now since you have the freedom to decide, "Is any decision you make right?" It is sad to say that the general census to that answer is yes, but the fact is that the answer is no. Just because you want something to go your way doesn't mean it is the right way. Let's go back to the religious leaders of that day when Jesus asked his disciples the question. The religious leaders and the people thought they were right even though they were wrong because of their "world view or perspective." Jesus is the messiah and scripture had clearly predicted His coming, only the leaders were blinded by their own desires. Scripture had said in Malachi 4 that Elijah would return before Jesus and proclaim the coming of the messiah and he did. John the Baptist was Elijah. Had the people of that day been tuned into God's word they would have clearly seen that Jesus was the messiah. Just as it is very clear in God's word that marriage between one man and one woman is the only acceptable marriage to God. You can twist it all you want to, but the fact is God is the ultimate authority and He says is it wrong.
I pray that all Christians would seek God's word so they will know the right answer to the questions of life. May we all have a Biblical World View.
