I was on vacation on top of Peti Jean Mountain in central Arkansas last week, it was a rainy day for fishing, but I didn't mind. I had my rain suite on and my new rod and reel. I had been fishing for about 2 hours in the rain, just working my way along the bank. The surroundings were magnificat! The clouds had settled on the mountain and across the lake on the other side about 200 yards away, the tree tops were covered in the clouds. The clouds just kind of hovered over the lake and the trees are beginning to change colors. It was beautiful to see. The wind was blowing about 10 to 15 mph causing small waves all across the lake. I was not getting any bites, so I was very focused on my fishing hoping to change my luck when I noticed the reflection of ducks flying overhead in the water. I looked up to see the ducks cupping their wings going in for a landing. If you have never seen ducks in the wild do this you have really missed a beautiful and graceful site. I continued to watch the ducks land in the water and they began to swim around the lake. I had noticed the waves they were making on the smooth as glass water. That was when I noticed the wind had stopped blowing, the water was smooth as glass, and the clouds had began to lift. I could see the trees across the lake and other birds had began to fly around. Things had changed and I hadn't noticed.
You see that is the way life is. We are so focused on trying to make it through life, trying to catch the big fish that we miss the changes going on all around us. Our children growing up, our marriage growing weak, our job well our job, our town going down or growing to fast, our country headed in the wrong direction. I'm not sure what we all are trying to get done or run away from, but we need to look up to see what is going on around us.
I'm still amazed at how God has created our world. We see it before us everyday. The plants, waters, mountains, animals and our own selves and we still pass Him by, just fishing in the waters of life.
May God Bless you and your family.
